Hola. I thought it'd be fun to share what could have been for Unscripted. I've been developing this comic series idea since 2016, so of course, things would change over time.
I kept going back and forth of what Felix's name would be. Since she was the main character, I wanted it to be catchy. I have a habit of giving my female main characters masculine names. Don't believe me. Read some of my novellas. I got attached to the name Felix immediately.
But then, I really wanted her to be named Finia. It sounds so beautiful. I could be biased since it's my middle name haha. For the longest time, her name was going to be changed to Finia. But then like 6 months later, I went back to Felix because my plan had been when I create comics/graphic novels I would use a pen name. I was going to use Finia. It would be confusing to have the creator have the same name as the main character. Felix is not based off of me.
The funny thing is I could have kept Finia since I never ended up using a pen name. I just go by Yawatta Hosby. Could've, would've, should've...didn't.
When I thought of Unscripted, Felix was always going to be the main character. However, her supporting cast was supposed to be her sisters, step-brother, and parents. I gave everyone backstories and thought about their relationships with Felix. I had different plots set up for the siblings. Unscripted was going to be like 'Keeping Up With the Kardashians,' where each character would be featured in their own settings.
The first premise of my graphic novel idea: Siblings want a private life but can't get what they ask for since they have famous parents. See how they rebel and navigate in a celebrity world they want no part in.
This concept changed when I started drawing character sketches as the theme of pictures in Felix's camera roll on her phone and/or social media feed. I drew Felix with Afric, not knowing who this new character was. I was intrigued by her though. Then I drew Felix with Nora, not knowing who she was either. This was around the time I discovered Fifth Harmony and started listening to their music. This gave me the idea to create two more female characters, so Felix could be in a pop group. From there, I began to only focus on Felix and her interactions with her bandmates. Her siblings got less and less mentions in my mind.
SPOILER ALERT--Eventually, Felix does leave the band, Me Cailinis. When I thought of Unscripted, I envisioned Felix on a late night talk show promoting a new project but the host just wanting to gossip on why she left her old band. This would cause some flashback scenes. She was supposed to start out as 25 years old, about 4-5 years out of the band already.
But I started thinking--why start at a pivotal moment in Felix's life if I'll just end up using flashbacks for everything? I might as well start the graphic novel at that particular point. So, now Felix is 21, months away from leaving the band. This way I can show the fallout and drama from this incident in real time.

P.S. Okay, I can tell you one more secret but just won't elaborate on it. Unscripted is inspired by Zarry and Ziam. In 2016, I had also just discovered ZAYN, then after doing research on him (hello my new celebrity crush; I needed to know everything about him lol) found One Direction.
